Greetings!
Aloha! Here it is, the shortest day of the year!
It's more sunshine from here on in, yahoo!!! And
I just got back from an incredible week in Honolulu!
Now that's where to spend time in December- to
think I left here in the snow, and arrived in
weather warm enough to swim in the ocean! I am
truly blessed, in so many ways.

My
Hawaiian adventure was incredible! It was fantastic
to be swimming in the sunshine and lying on the
beach, especially after a most incredible marathon!
As most of you know, I ran my first marathon in
Honolulu on December 12th. I'm back from the experience
of a lifetime!
At 5 am about 25,000 people filled the streets,
and were treated to a spectacular fireworks display
before the marathon began. We then ran in the
dark past beautiful Christmas decorations and
lights- through a tropical Winter Wonderland.
Then, as I was running up Diamond Head, the sun
came up over the ocean! It was beautiful- shortly
the cyclists and first men to win were passing
me! The winning time was 2 hrs 10 mins- I was
6 hrs 13 mins. Near the end, I was walking up
Diamond Head along with many others because it
was hot, then I decided I wanted to run because
I was running for my Mom, who had to walk with
a cane the last few years of her life due to arthritis.
I wanted to finish strong for her and I did- she
was definitely there with me! I could feel her
presence as I crossed the finish line. Then as
I was walking to get my medal, we saw this beautiful,
gleeful bronze statue of a little girl- and it's
name was 'Joy'- my Mom's name was Joyce. I hadn't
expected the run to be spiritual, but it certainly
was!
It was awesome to run with some real heroes-
people with arthritis that shouldn't technically
be alive, or running or walking. One woman, Melissa,
29 years old, had been diagnosed with scleroderma
when she was 3. Most people don't live long after
being diagnosed. She was running for each year
she had lived with scleroderma- 26 years. And
she did it! Another woman had 8 surgeries already
for arthritis, and had one of her ankles fused.
She tried to walk it last year but couldn't complete
it. She was there this year again because in the
New Year she will be having her second ankle fused
and won't be able to walk a marathon. She did
it!!!! Amazing feats! And my coach, Lisa Hopper,
who doesn't say peep about her rheumatoid arthritis-
she runs and volunteer coaches others to run their
first marathons. She finished her marathon, then
came back to meet me and support me in finishing
mine.
I am so truly blessed. To be given the opportunity
to run the marathon for an incredible organization,
to have the health to do it easily, to have wonderful
people who supported me in doing it with words
of encouragement and/or financial support, a wonderful
family who supported me. You have all done so
much to help me fulfill this dream of mine, Mahalo
(thank you) from the bottom of my heart!

As we enter the final days of the year, I encourage
you to take the time to reflect on all the wonderful
things you have accomplished this past year, and
all your blessings, what you have to be grateful
for. Then get ready to celebrate!!! Celebrate your
successes!!!
If you are feeling like you want to accomplish
more this coming year than you did last year and
want some help- call me! I can help get you where
you want to be a lot faster and easier than you
would on your own.
Wishing you and your loved ones a very joyous
holiday season, filled with love, laughter, peace
and joy. Mele Kalekemaka (Merry Christmas)!
