  Turning your Dreams into Reality

February, 2005

Greetings!

Hello, and welcome! I am truly honoured to have you join me! I don't know what the weather is like where you are, but it is absolutely stunning here! A bit above freezing, blue skies, some snowy patches and sunshine! New shoots popping up, and more daylight, showing that spring is just around the corner.

  In this issue:

The last month has been incredibly fulfilling and filled with possibility. I had the opportunity to coach at a 3 day Life Directions program put on my Peak Potentials, then immediately attended an accelerated learning program, Train the Trainer2, put on by them. What an incredible experience! The intention I set out for the courses was to meet some great people, and did I ever! My life is so much fuller because of the people I've met and continue to meet- we have so much to learn from each other!

Two books I've read this month are the 'Art of Possibility' by Judith and Ben Zander and 'Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting' by Lynn Grabhorn. 'The Art of Possibility' is a great story of how Ben Zander teaches possibilities to his music students, and how they excel in life from his practices. 'Excuse me' is about the Law of Attraction. These two books reflect the past month I've had- it has truly been a month of incredible possibilities and attracting great people and things into my life. I am truly blessed!

  Persistence and Support

Norma ReidLife Directions is a 3 day program where people get clear on what their purpose and mission in life are. I was reminded why I was attracted to coaching- to help others see the possibility of what their lives can be- that they can live a rich full life in all areas, and are entitled to it by virtue of being alive. It's about connecting with the truly magnificent person that we are, accessing our potential and possibility.

Too often we settle for a humdrum existence- we're in a career we don't like, we have a ho-hum marriage, we don't like our house, we don't like our body. Too often we 'settle' for what is, instead of creating what we do want. In many ways I've broken free of the humdrum- I quit a 30 year smoking and drinking habit, a 22 year career with government to follow my dreams- changed careers, started my own business, ran a marathon, yet in some ways I still settle. I feel great- about 50 pounds lighter than I was 5 years ago, and I work out regularly, yet, I yoyo up and down the last 20 pounds. I lose it only to put it back on, over and over. I settle at this weight, yet I want to be 20 pounds lighter.

Lynn Grabhorn believes we manifest what we want by feeling, not by positive thoughts or words or sweat or? but by feelings. She says "wanting is creating. Wanting-and manifesting those Wants into reality- is fulfilling your reason for being. And therein lies the true richness of life". She talks about three types of wants-

  1. Real Wants- come from don't wants. For example, I don't want to go to visit my in-laws; instead I want to-- we just need to flip a don't want to a real want!
  2. Negative Wants- don't make you feel good. For example, I want to be well- implies you are sick, I want to lose weight, implies you are heavy. They come from negative energy. The focus is on what you don't have, so you need to flip it to something that feels good, that adds excitement and desire.
  3. Rightful Wants- we have a right to our desires by virtue of being alive.

According to those descriptors, I have a negative want- to lose weight. So, I need to change that to something that will work for me. So, it goes back to finding the real motivating reason for wanting the goal- the reason that fills me with joy and makes my spirits soar. For me it's seeing myself this summer having fun with my children and grandchildren at the lake- playing in the water and on the sand, feeling happy, joyous and having a little giggle as I look down and see a six-pack- on me! Lynn says the key with wants is to stay up about them rather than down. It is all about vibrational energy- if we are vibrating low energy- negative thoughts, that is what we attract. (There's that quantum physics, 'What the Bleep' stuff again!). High energy- joy, excitement etc- we attract high energy back. "Once you know what you want, you must find the FEELING PLACE of having that Want, while at the same time staying out of the feeling place of not having it". If we're not sure what we desire will feel like, we can pretend! So, I have to stay up about the excitement of being in a size 8 bathing suit and seeing my abs, imagine myself already there, for at least 16 seconds a day- and not get down about the flab on my belly right now. Sounds like a great exercise for me to start- it will be fun, and hey, it just might work! Didn't Einstein say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?

My challenge to you is if there is something humdrum in your life- an area where you have 'settled'- what is something you can do differently this month to create positive change?
