Greetings!
Here it is, April! An energizing time, a time
of rebirth and renewal. And for me, a month where
I've been reminded regularly about the passing
of time! My eldest son turns 30 this week, my
baby 29 in 3 weeks. It amazes me how quickly time
has passed.

It seems like just a year or two ago that I witnessed
the birth of my first grandchild, Serena. Yet
she turned 5 last month, and we are all awaiting
the arrival of her new brother or sister next
month. It seems like yesterday Dawn told me she
was pregnant; I am reminded how quickly time passes
as I watch her belly grow!
And it was time for the Sun Run in Vancouver,
so I hopped on the bus for my annual trip with
52 like-minded Sun Run participants and we headed
to join 47,000 others to do the run. Lots of fun!

I
had the honour and pleasure of facilitating a
day-long workshop with eighteen incredible people,
mainly seniors, helping them determine the vision,
mission, and next steps for the Rec and Wellness
Centre. Their clarity, commitment, determination
and dedication to the Centre and the community
is truly inspiring. Some of these people were
in their 80s, incredibly vital, being of service
to others in a big way. And do they know how to
have fun! It was a great day!
It has been a month where I've had to re-evaluate
where I'm spending my time. There are so many
wonderful things happening, and I want to be part
of so much. There are only 7 days in a week, so
sometimes things overlap. (My sons tell me I keep
myself too busy, and spread myself too thin, yet
I love all that I do). I had to determine what
was most important to me. And I realized that
I overcommitted myself. There is a coaches conference
in a couple of weeks I put a deposit on last summer
to attend. There will be wonderful people there,
and lots of opportunity for growth, laughter,
fun and friendship- things I love! But I was feeling
overwhelmed at the amount of weekends I've been
away from home, and realized for me what I needed
is a weekend free to be me- alone or with my family.
One consistent issue with my clients is time
management- making time for the things that are
most important- saying no to things that aren't
and yes to things that are. And sometimes it's
saying no to the yes things!
When I look at my major values- connection, intimacy,
lifelong learning- they are all met in very positive
ways at the Coaches conference. So it was an immediate
'yes' to me to attend. Yet, all the other weekend
events I've been doing also said yes to me. So
what I was intuiting was a no- too many weekends
away, needing a weekend just to be.
While I know I will miss a great weekend with
some great people, I will benefit more because
I listened to myself, and gave myself the gift
of time, the gift of that weekend to just be-
with or without family, whatever I choose in the
moment.
My challenge to you this month is to give more
thought to how you spend your time. Ask yourself
how important is it to you to be doing something?
Before you say yes or no, ask yourself, 'If I
say yes to this, what am I saying no to? and '
If I say no to this, what am I saying yes to?'
Then listen...

This section is for you to share an inspirational
quote, story, website- whatever you choose!
Tracey Virtue sent me this, along with this comment:
"I thought you might think this story is
interesting. I think it shows how we can touch
so many people's lives yet sometimes never know
how big an impact a small action we take will
affect others. Thanks for touching my life and
being an inspiration!"
Thank you for touching my life Tracey!
His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish
farmer. One day, while trying to make a living
for his family, he heard a cry for help coming
from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran
to the bog. There, mired to his waist in black
muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling
to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad
from what could have been a slow and terrifying
death.
The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the
Scotsman's sparse surroundings. An elegantly dressed
nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as
the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved.
"I want to repay you," said the nobleman.
"You saved my son's life."
"No, I can't accept payment for what I did,"
the Scottish farmer replied waving off the offer.
At that moment, the farmer's own son came to the
door of the family hovel.
"Is that your son?" the nobleman asked.
"Yes," the farmer replied proudly.
"I'll make you a deal. Let me provide him
with the level of education my own son will enjoy.
If the lad is anything like his father, he'll
no doubt grow to be a man we both will be proud
of." And that he did. Farmer Fleming's son
attended the very best schools and in time, graduated
from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London,
and went on to become known throughout the world
as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer
of Penicillin.
Years afterward, the same nobleman's son who
was saved from the bog was stricken with pneumonia.
What saved his life this time? Penicillin.
The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill.
His son's name?
Sir Winston Churchill
